University’s satellite office embraces new, innovative tech in Canada’s largest technology park

When uOttawa opened their doors in the Kanata North Technology Park in 2019, they did so with a clear purpose, to support innovation and to facilitate networking between alumni, industry, researchers, and co-op students.

Part of the university’s mandate in Kanata is to help new alumni settle into post-graduate life in Kanata and uOttawa alumni Eric Yang did exactly that. After graduating in 2021, Eric started work as an Embedded IoT Device Engineer at Kanata North’s Teldio and has since been promoted to Solutions Engineer at Hyyphen.

Fast-forward to today, and things come full circle, with Eric making introductions to the uOttawa Kanata North team at 535 Legget Drive, to see how they could benefit from one of Hyyphen’s products—the Welcome virtual reception solution.

Improving operations

We spoke with Aidan Harris, Marketing and Communications Coordinator at uOttawa Kanata North, to get his perspective on how Hyyphen Welcome has transformed their operations.

“Our collaborative space is a place for students, professors, researchers, and groups to meet and collaborate with industry and tech ecosystem partners,” explains Aidan. “It’s buzzing with excitement and activity, and the various meeting spaces are frequently booked, which can present an operational challenge for our small team.”

uOttawa Kanata North invested in an 8,000 square-foot space for training, research, and collaboration in the heart of the park, placing its students and faculties closer to industry.

Aidan adds, “When Eric approached us with Hyyphen Welcome, we saw an immediate need for this solution. It’s incredibly helpful to greet visitors as they arrive for their room bookings, cutting down potential wait times and making the process smoother and more productive.”

By automating visitor management, organizations can improve efficiency, enhance security, and provide a better experience for their visitors and staff—as the uOttawa Kanata North example perfectly illustrates.

Embracing innovation

Embracing new technologies that are developed in the Kanata North tech park is something the uOttawa Kanata North team fully supports. “Welcome has made my life a lot easier,” concludes Aidan.

Seeing how happy the team and visitors are using the solution, and knowing it was developed right here in the tech park, is fantastic!
